In House Program Report ~ Vice President Pete Rega

The 2008 2009 In House Program is off to a fantastic start. There are 32 skaters registered and they have been working hard to develop their skating and hockey skills on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.  Each of the players has been focused on improving their skating skills and have worked tirelessly to improve their power stops, tight turns, crossovers, escape turns, pivots and backward skating.  They have also learned hockey skills such as puck handling, passing, shooting and teamwork.  We always find time to work in some fun things to do at each practice after all the hard work is done.  Each player has received their official Chelmsford Hockey white and maroon practice shirts and team socks.  Starting in November, the skaters will be placed on two Teams and they will begin playing scrimmages against other In House Teams from Haverhill, Greater Lowell, Nashoba and Tewksbury.  A special preseason jamboree with several Woburn In House Teams is scheduled for Saturday, October 25th and the kids are really excited about their first games.  On December 13th, the two Chelmsford teams will square off for the annual CHA In House Cup and there might even be a holiday party in the making following the contest. This year, we are blessed to have many outstanding volunteers and coaches who are volunteering their time in helping make this a great year for the kids. Special thanks to Chris Thomas who will be head coach for the White Team and Tom Tredeau who will be head coach for the Maroon Team.  Good Luck Guys! The season is now in full swing and the games are right around the corner so its time to have some real fun.

The MA Hockey District 9 Playdowns are coming! ~ Registrar Scott Millin

For those of you that are new to the playdowns (all teams at Squirt level or above participate in the playdowns), or have participated in playdowns in the past but never really understood what they are and why they occur, please read on. The Chelmsford Hockey Association is a member of Massachusetts Hockey and Mass Hockey has carved up the state into 10 districts, with each district comprised of city and town hockey programs that are linked geographically. The Chelmsford Hockey Association and 11 other nearby associations form Mass Hockey’s District 9. The District Playdowns are really just a fancy name for a tournament and they are used to determine the best team at every level in the district. For example, the CHA Pee Wee 3 team will most likely face off against other District 9 Pee Wee 3 teams in its upcoming playdown. Your team’s ranking, or seed, in a playdown is determined by its overall record and its record against comparable district opponents. When a team loses a playdown game, it is out of the tournament. When a team wins a playdown game, it moves on to face the next opponent - the last team standing is then the District Champion. Each District Champion then goes on to compete in the state tournament to determine the best team in the state. Playdowns are spread out over the course of the season. The CHA Midget 1 team competed in its playdown in October and the Girls U14 team along with the Squirt and Pee Wee teams will play later in the winter. All three of our Bantam teams will all be playing Thursday November 6th at the Chelmsford Forum. First game starts at 6:40. Show your support, stop down and cheer them on!
